EBRD and Danone invest jointly in Poland's largest biscuit producer
In its fifth investment under the US$ 100 million (EUR 101 million) multi-project facility signed with Danone in March 1995, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has acquired a minority stake in Danone Ciastka Sp.zo.o, the leading Polish biscuit manufacturer owned by the French group Danone. Danone Ciastka was established following Danone's acquisition earlier this year of Delicja, formerly part of the Wedel group.
"By investing in Danone Ciastka, the EBRD is continuing its support for strong successful businesses in Poland," said Charles Frank, the EBRD's First Vice President. "Danone Ciastka has a leading market position, well-recognised brands and high-quality manufacturing facilities. The EBRD's investment, together with Danone's contribution of its expertise and resources, will help Danone Ciastka to expand its operations and will contribute to the development of the Polish food and biscuit industry."
He continued: "This project demonstrates the success of our continuing partnership with Danone, a company with a clear long-term commitment to central and eastern Europe."
The investment made today is for EUR 19.36 million. To date, Danone and the EBRD have jointly invested over US$ 150 million (EUR 152 million) in four companies: Danone Ciastka; Bolshevik, the largest Russian biscuit company; Danone-Serdika, the main yoghurt producer in Bulgaria; and Danone SRL, a leading Romanian yoghurt manufacturer.
