EBRD appoints new Head of Resident Office for Azerbaijan
Raymond Conway has taken up his post as Head of the EBRD Resident Office in
Azerbaijan effective 12 January. Olivier Descamps, EBRD Business Group
Director for Southern and Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, said that Mr
Conway’s appointment is an important step in the further development of the
Bank’s activities in Azerbaijan.
Mr Conway joined the EBRD in 1995. An experienced banker, Mr Conway’s work has
recently included management of four upstream and midstream oil and gas
projects, of which three are in Azerbaijan. Prior to joining the Bank, Mr
Conway held posts in the Canadian government, where he worked in the Office of
the Canadian Minister of Finance and in Export Development Canada (EDC). He
holds a BA (Political Science and Economics) from the University of Alberta
and an MBA from the Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario.
The EBRD had cumulative commitments of more than €350 million in Azerbaijan as
of end 2002.The Bank’s activities in the country have focused on investments
in the private sector, including small and medium-sized enterprises, on the
financing of critical infrastructure projects, and the oil sector.
