EBRD's shareholder representatives visit Moldova
A delegation of the EBRD Board of Directors arrives in Moldova on Sunday for a
two-day visit that involves meetings with President Vladimir Voronin, Prime
Minister Vasile Tarlev and other senior government officials, as well as local
and foreign business leaders and representatives of the international
community based in Moldova. They will also visit a number of projects in which
the EBRD has invested.
Representatives of the Board in the delegation are Georges Heinen, for
Luxembourg, Belgium and Slovenia; Gonzalo Ramos, for Spain and Mexico;
Jean-Louis Six, for Belgium, Luxembourg and Slovenia; Laurent Guye, for
Switzerland, Turkey, Liechtenstein, Uzbekistan, the Kyrgyz Republic,
Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Serbia & Montenegro; Mark Sullivan, for the US;
Peter Reith, for Australia, Korea, New Zealand and Egypt; Simon Ray, for the
UK; Susumu Fujimoto, for Japan; and Yuri Poluneev and Stefan Presura for
Ukraine, Romania Moldova, Georgia and Armenia.
The visit will enable the Directors to get an impression of the country’s
ongoing reform agenda and the challenges it continues to face. Last year the
EBRD issued its revised strategy for Moldova, outlining priority areas for the
Bank in the country, including private-sector development, support for
infrastructure projects (including energy and telecommunications), as well as
policy dialogue with the authorities to help improve the investment climate.
The EBRD is the largest single investor in Moldova, with more than €170
million invested in 29 projects.
The delegation will give a press conference on Tuesday 15 June at 16.45hrs
at the Official Delegations Hall, Chisinau International Airport.
