Project description
and objectives:

Participation in the funding and establishment of a new venture capital fund to invest in Hungarian medium-sized enterprises. The fund will primarily make equity investments in Hungarian unquoted medium-sized enterprises with the objective of achieving long-term capital growth. The fund will aim to maximise return to its investors.

Transition impact:

The fund will contribute to Hungarian transition and development of the private sector by supporting investees only with the highest potential to compete and grow in a free market economy. Investee companies will have access to international management know-how to achieve financial restructuring and growth.

The client:

A newly established venture capital fund to be managed by the Hungarian American Enterprise Fund (HAEF). HAEF has been established to make investments in the Hungarian private sector pursuant to the Support for East European Democracy Act of 1989 of the USA.

EBRD finance:

Up to US$ 8.5 million (ECU 6.6 million) subscription of the fund's equity capital.

Total project cost:

Up to US$ 60 million (ECU 46.9 million).

Environmental impact:

C/0: The project does not require an environmental analysis or an environmental audit. Identification, analysis and supervision of investments by the fund will be carried out with due regard to environmental factors and in accordance with the EBRD's Environmental Guidelines for Investment Funds. The fund will not invest in companies engaged in activities on the EBRD's Environmental Exclusion List.
