Project description
and objectives:
|
Proposed loan to modernise Tajikistan's ageing air navigation equipment and to support the restructuring of the aviation sector.
The project aims to:
- replace ageing equipment for air navigation services;
- implement reform of the aviation sector in Tajikistan;
- support corporate restructuring of TSA.
|
Transition
impact:
|
The Aviation Restructuring Study, financed by technical cooperation (TC) funding, resulted in a number of recommendations. TC assistance attached to the present project will provide the means to implement these recommendations. They include the transfer of TSA's regulatory function to an independent entity and the creation of separate business units. The modernisation of Tajikistan's ageing air navigation equipment will ensure the safety of Tajik airspace.

|
Environmental impact:
|
The project has been screened B0, requiring an environmental analysis. The environmental impact associated with air navigation projects such as this one is not likely to be significant. It is generally limited to construction practices and includes issues such as dust, noise, possible ground or surface water pollution, waste disposal, worker health and safety issues, and use of hazardous materials. There could also be environmental impact associated with the siting and construction of access roads and radar equipment.
