Economics of Transition - Vol. 13 No. 3 2005
This issue of the journal is devoted to the economics of institutions. The
paper by Munshi and Rosenzweig examines how traditional institutions such as
caste-based social insurance networks respond to economic development. Hoff
and Pandey look at beliefs systems and how they shape the response to economic
incentives. Bandiera, Barankay and Rasul study how institutions affect the
resolution of collective action problems. The final paper by Bardhan, Rodrik
and Rigobon is an empirical study of the effect of institutions on economic
performance across countries.
