Abstract

Crime remains a significant problem in the transition countries. This paper looks at the impact of organised crime and street crime on the enterprise sector. It finds that countries with high unemployment and poorly developed micro enterprise sectors have the highest rates of crime. The paper also highlights the negative impact crime has on foreign direct investment and job creation.
