Abstract

In 1998 the EBRD faced its toughest test since its foundation. The collapse of financial markets in Russia and its repercussions throughout the region posed a severe challenge for the Bank and its countries of operations. Despite these strains, the Bank signed projects totalling ECU 2.4 billion and the reform process in most transition countries remained on track.
